Fast, ultra-wideangle zoom lens with Nikon's exclusive Silent Wave Motor

Nikon is proud to add a new lens to its AF-S Nikkor lineup, the AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED. Ideal for photojournalism and general photographic applications, this new ultra-wideangle zoom lens offers high optical performance and the shortest closest-focusing distance in its class - 0.28m (0.9 ft.) throughout the entire zoom range.   The lens is also fast, and features a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 at all focal lengths.

A key feature of this new lens is Nikon's exclusive built-in Silent Wave Motor, which ensures ultra-fast, ultra-quiet autofocus operation. Optical performance is also superior thanks to the inclusion of ED (Extra-low Dispersion glass and aspherical lens elements in a new optical design.

While the lens is designed for maximum autofocus performance with the Nikon F5, F4, F100, F90x, F90, F70, Pronea 600i, Pronea S, Nikon Digital Camera E2/E3 series and D1, it can also be focused manually with other Nikon SLR models.  The advanced M/A mode lets you switch quickly from automatic to manual focusing, even during AF servo operation, with virtually no time lag. Plus, the lens consumes no power for manual focusing operation.
